Does Infrared Light Therapy Work for Weight Reduction?
There is little scientific evidence supporting the claims that infrared light, whether administered by lamp, laser, or while in a body wrap, can help people lose weight or shape their bodies.
Infrared light therapy has been around for some time and has been used to treat a variety of conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis and other skin disorders. In recent years it has been promoted as a weight loss aid despite little scientific backing.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) there is no credible scientific evidence that infrared light can help you lose weight or shape your body. There have been some promising studies conducted on animals but none on humans with any long-term follow up.
Furthermore, the NIH states that “the only way to safely lose weight is through diet and exercise.”
